IMPORTANT HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION [back to top]

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including certain light patterns, flashing lights, or saturated red colors. Exposure to certain patterns or backgrounds on a video monitor, or while playing video games attached to a monitor, may induce an epileptic-like seizure.

These conditions may induce previously undetected epileptic symptoms even in persons who have no history of prior seizures or epilepsy. If you, or anyone in your family, have a history of epilepsy or seizures, consult your physician prior to playing.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness
  • Altered vision
  • Eye or muscle twitches
  • Loss of awareness
  • Disorientation
  • Involuntary movement or convulsions

Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms - children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.

To reduce the likelihood of a seizure when playing video games:

  • Sit or stand as far from the screen as possible.
  • Play video games on the smallest available monitor.
  • Do not play if you are tired or need sleep.
  • Play in a well-lit room.
  • Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour.

GETTING STARTED [back to top]

Click the Play Now button to get started

If you have a game in progress, you'll be asked if you'd like to continue your previous game.

Now, select your favorite token to use. You can also select your opponent, their token, and their difficulty. You have to select at least one opponent.

You may then choose which background environment that you'd like to play in.

Alternate Rules

If you'd like to change things up a bit, try the Sleight of Hand or House Rules Options.

House Rules: House rules allow you to introduce some of the more common rule variations of MONOPOLY. You can add money to Free Parking; Double your payday for landing exactly on GO; or you can decide to start with a few properties or more money. House Rules will be identified by the green houses next to the active rule. If house rules are on, the icon will pulse.
Sleight of Hand: You can also opt to turn on Sleight of Hand rules. These are rules of trickery giving you a certain advantage. You can choose to control your own destiny by determining your next dice roll or get a free improvement when you complete a color group.

Teacher Mode

If you have never played MONOPOLY before, try playing in Teacher Mode. This mode will help you through the basics of MONOPOLY.

HERE'S HOW TO PLAY [back to top]

How Do I Win?

Be the only player left in the game after everyone else has gone bankrupt.

Do this by buying properties and charging other players rent for landing on them. Collect groups of properties to increase the rent, and then build houses and hotels to really boost your income.

On your Turn:

  • Roll your dice
  • Your token will move forward based on your roll
  • You will need to take action depending on which space you land on.
  • If your move took you onto or past the GO space, collect $200 from the bank.
  • If you rolled a double, roll the dice again and take another move. Watch out! If you roll doubles 3 times on the same turn, you must Go to Jail

WHERE DID YOU LAND? [back to top]

An Unowned Property

There are three types of property: Sites, Stations, and Utilities

You can buy the property you land on for the listed price on the board space. Pay the Bank, then you'll be awarded the Title Deed card that matches the property. This will automatically show up on your side of the board. If you don't want to pay the listed price, the property goes up for auction. You may turn off auctions in the Options screen before you begin a game.

When buying property you should plan to acquire groups. For example: if you buy a green site, you should try to get the other two green sites during the game. Owning groups earns you more rent when other players land on them and lets you build your sites for even bigger profits.

A Property Owned By Another Player

If you land on another player's property you must pay rent to them as shown on the Title Deed card. You do not pay rent if the property is mortgaged.

Sites: The rent for an unimproved site is printed on the matching Title Deed card. This is doubled if the owner owns all sites in its color group. If the site is improved with houses or hotels, the rent will be much higher as shown on the Title Deed card. Rent will automatically be deducted (or awarded) in the correct amount.
Railroad: Rent depends on how many railroads the other player owns.
  • One railroad = $25
  • Two Railroads = $50
  • Three Railroads = $100
  • Four Railroads = $200
Utilities: Roll the dice and multiply the result by 4 - This is the rent you must pay. If the owning player owns both utilities, multiply the result by 10!

Chance or Community Chest

Take the top card from the appropriate pile, follow the instructions on it immediately, and then return it face down to the bottom of the pile. If it is a Get Out of Jail Free card, keep it until you need to use it or sell it to another player.

Income Tax/Luxury Tax

If you land on one of these spaces, you must pay the Bank the amount shown.

Go to Jail

If you land on this space, you must move your token to the Jail space immediately. You do not collect $200 for passing GO if you are sent to Jail. As soon as you are sent to Jail, your turn ends.

Other ways to end up in Jail:

  • Draw a Chance or Community Chest card that tells you to Go to Jail
  • Roll three doubles in a row on your turn

How do you get out of Jail?

You have 3 options:

  • Pay $50 at the start of your next turn, then roll and move as normal.
  • Use a Get out of Jail Free card if you have one or buy one from another player
  • Wait three turns. On each turn roll the dice; if you get a double, you will be moved out of Jail and round the board on this roll. If you do not get a double on your third roll, you must pay $50 to the Bank and then you'll be moved the number of spaces rolled.

Jail (Just Visiting)

Don't worry! If you finish your normal move on the Jail space, nothing happen. You'll be in the JUST VISITING section.

Free Parking

Relax! Nothing bad (or good) happens unless you have House Rules enabled.

A Property That You Own

Nothing happens, but you're not making any money!

WHEN IT'S NOT YOUR TURN YOU CAN [back to top]

Collect Rent

When another player lands on one of your unmortgaged properties, you will receive rent as outlined above.

Auction

The Bank holds an auction when:

  • A player lands on an unowned property and decides not to buy it for the listed price
  • A player goes bankrupt and returns all mortgaged properties to the Bank (when there are more than 2 players)
Remember that during an auction you may mortgage your properties to raise more cash

BEFORE YOU BEGIN OR END YOUR TURN YOU CAN [back to top]

Build

When you own all the sites in a color group, you can buy houses from the Bank and put them on any of those sites

  • The listed price of each house is shown on the Title Deed
  • You must build evenly. You may change this in the House Rules
  • You can have a maximum of 4 houses on a single site
  • When you have 4 houses on a site, you can exchange them for a hotel by paying the listed price on the Title Deed. You can only have one hotel per site and cannot build additional houses on a site with a hotel.
  • You cannot build on a site if any site in its color group is mortgaged.
  • If there are no buildings left in the bank, you must wait for other players to sell their houses or hotels before you can buy any.

Sell Buildings

Buildings can be sold back to the Bank at half the listed price. Houses must be sold evenly in the same way that they were bought. Hotels are sold for half the listed price and immediately exchanged for 4 houses.

Mortgage Properties

If you're low on cash or don't have enough to pay a debt, you can mortgage any of your unimproved properties. You must sell all buildings on a color group to the Bank before you can mortgage one of its sites. You can simply select which properties you'd like to mortgage OR you can select the Auto-Sell option and properties will be automatically mortgaged to settle your debt.

Do a Deal

You can do a deal with another player to buy, sell, or trade unimproved properties. You may trade mortgaged properties.

A NOTE ON DEBT [back to top]

If you ever owe the Bank or another player more cash than you have, try to raise the money by selling buildings and/or mortgaging properties.

If you still owe more than you have you are BANKRUPT and you are out of the game.
