2.2  Known Issues
===================================

2.2.1 - Texture corruption

A rare issue with ingame textures becoming visually corrupted has been observed on Nvidia 8600GT video cards. Closing and restarting the game will resolve the problem. Sidhe will continue working to resolve this issue in a future patch.

2.2.2 - No mouse cursor in menus

On rare occasions the mouse cursor is not visible in the menus. The menu can still be navigated with keyboard and/or gamepad in these cases.

2.2.3 - XBOX 360 controller Drivers

There is potentail for the installation of the Xbox 360 controller drivers to result in the deletion of a necessary .dll that will result in an error when loading the settings editor. If you have recently installed Xbox 360 controller drivers and are having issues running the settings editor, or the controller is not appearing as a selectable control scheme, please reinstall DirectX(R) at http://www.microsoft.com

2.2.4 - Update Drivers

Installing and running the latest drivers for all devices on your machine can improve performance. Check your manufacturer's website for instructions on how to download and install latest drivers.

2.2.5 - Update DirectX(R)

If your installation of DirectX is damaged please run the DirectX installer at http://www.microsoft.com

=====================================================================
3) IMPROVING PERFORMANCE
=====================================================================

===================================
3.1 Settings Editor Options
===================================

The Shatter settings editor contains options for changing graphical settings that impact performance.

The following is a list of those options and their effects.

* Resolution

Resolution refers to the size of the game window. Higher resolutions look better, but run slower. Each resolution is listed with its aspect ratio. If you are running in fullscreen mode, you should choose an aspect ratio that matches your monitor to avoid the game looking stretched.

* Fullscreen

This option selects whether the game will run in fullscreen mode or in a window. Games usually perform better in fullscreen mode.

* VSync

VSync selects whether the game waits for the monitor refresh or draws as quickly as it can. Disabling this can enable a faster or smoother framerate, but you may experience tearing, where half of the screen shows a newer image that the other half.

* Triple buffer

This option adds another buffer so that the game can continue rendering while the previous frame is still being copied to the screen.
It can speed up rendering performance, but it uses more memory. Using this option with vsync turned off may be redundant.

* Anti-aliasing

Anti-Aliasing produces a sharper looking image by blending multiple samples for each pixel onscreen. The higher this setting, the more samples will be used, the sharper the image will be and the more memory will be used.

===================================
3.2 Options for Lower End Systems
===================================

On lower end systems, it is advised to close any and all programs that are running in the background (including anti-virus software), then begin by running Shatter on the lowest resolution.

If the game runs well at these settings (60 fps is recommended), then slowly increment the quality with a single resolution change to a higher setting, or consider increasing the Anti-Aliasing quality.

If the game continues to perform well under the new circumstances, then continue this process until it performs at the best visual quality, without any loss or effect to gameplay.

===================================
3.3 FAQs regarding Performance
===================================

Q: Shatter appears to run at a decent framerate, but intermittently (once every second or two) stalls briefly. How do I fix this?

A: This is usually caused by using settings that require more video memory than you have available. Reducing the resolution and anti-aliasing options, disabling triple buffering and running in fullscreen mode will all use less memory.

Q: Why are there no texture options in the settings editor?

A: Very few models in Shatter (outside of the menus) are rendered using textures, so including texture options (such as anistropic filtering or detail levels) would not have resulted in any noticeable difference to visuals or performance.

Q: Why is the list of resolutions different in windowed and fullscreen modes?

A: In windowed mode, all resolutions below the current windows desktop resolution are available. In fullscreen mode, only those compatible with your graphics hardware and monitor are displayed.
