1.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
=========================

1.1 MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Rocket Mania Deluxe for Windows requires an IBM PC or 100% compatible
computer, with a Pentium II 350 MHz or better processor. Your computer must
have at least 64 megabytes of RAM.

Operating System: you must be utilizing Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 Professional,
Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Professional with DirectX (R) 7 or later to
play Rocket Mania Deluxe for Windows on your system.

Controls: a keyboard and a 100% Microsoft compatible mouse are required.

Sound: you must have a DirectX (R) certified sound card installed.

Video: you must have your desktop set to 16-bit or 32-bit Color
(256 Colors may not work properly).

1.2 RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

PopCap recommends an IBM PC or 100% compatible computer, with a
Pentium II 500 MHz or better processor and 128 megabytes of RAM.

=====================================
2.0 TROUBLESHOOTING / COMPATIBILITY
=====================================

For updates to this list go to www.popcap.com.

2.1 DirectX (R)

Rocket Mania Deluxe requires you to have DirectX (R) 7 drivers or later
installed.

These are sound and video drivers from Microsoft used in
many games. If you need the latest version of DirectX (R), go to
http://www.microsoft.com/directx.

2.2 Screen Color Depth

Rocket Mania Deluxe requires you to be running in 16 bit color or better.
It may not function in Windowed mode properly in 256 colors. If you
are running in 256 colors, the game will try to switch to full
screen mode.

In addition, the game may run slowly in windowed mode in 32 bit
color. If this occurs, switch to full-screen mode, or change
your color depth to 16 bits.

2.3 Bug Reporting

Though we've tried our best to squash all the bugs, every once in
a while something we didn't expect pops up...

If you should come across a bug in Rocket Mania Deluxe, please report it to
bugs@popcap.com.

If for some reason the program crashes, it will try to capture any
pertinent data and give you instructions on how to send that data
to PopCap. This is very helpful for tracking down glitches! This
information is also stored in a file called CRASH.TXT in your
Rocket Mania directory (C:/PROGRAM FILES/POPCAP GAMES/ROCKET MANIA DELUXE by
default). If you can, include this text file with any email you
send to PopCap about crashes.

======================
3.0 PLAYING THE GAME
======================

3.1 GOAL

The goal of Rocket Mania is to create a fuse to link a burning match to one
or more rockets.

There are three game modes: Classic, Arcade and Strategy. But the basics
remain the same for both... rotate the tiles and try to create a fuse that
launches as many rockets as possible at one time. Pick up bonus items along
the way by including them in the path of a fuse. In Classic and Arcade modes,
you can upgrade your rockets by picking up coins.

3.2 GAMEPLAY BASICS

In all three game modes, there are matches on the left hand side, and
rockets on the right hand side. In between, there are fuse blocks. These
fuses rotate counter-clockwise when clicked, and will rotate clockwise when
right-clicked. To launch a rocket, you must form an unbroken path of fuses
from the match to the rocket(s). When a fuse is complete, all rockets linked
to a match will automatically launch. You have a fraction of a second to
quickly turn a connected fuse block if you change your mind and want to
change the path of the fuse you have created. If you are really quick, you
can even add extra fuses blocks to your chain while the fuse starts to burn.

HINT: Try to connect fuses to the rockets FIRST, then work backwards and
connect your rockets to a match. Remember, one match can launch multiple
rockets!

3.3 INTERFACE TIPS

PAUSE
You can pause the game either by clicking the PAUSE button, or by pressing
the spacebar on your keyboard.

FULL SCREEN MODE
You can enter or exit full screen mode either by using the checkbox in the
OPTIONS dialog, or by pressing the ALT and ENTER keys on your keyboard at
the same time.

ROTATING TILES
You can rotate tiles by using the left or right mouse buttons - the left
mouse button rotates the fuse counter-clockwise, the right mouse button
rotates the fuse clockwise.

DRAGGING TILES
This can only be done in Arcade mode. You can drag a tile to a new location
by pressing down the mouse button, dragging the mouse, and releasing the
mouse button.

3.4 GAME MODES

After the game loads, you will see a screen allowing you to choose Classic,
Arcade or Strategy modes. New players should start with Classic or Strategy
modes, while experienced Rocket Mania players may prefer the more frantic
and action-packed Arcade mode.

3.5 CLASSIC GAME

This is the original game of Rocket Mania. This is a timed game.

You will see a Rocket Counter in the left-hand side bar. This shows how
many rockets you must launch to progress to the next level. At the top of
the screen is a string of lanterns; this is your timer and when dawn
approaches these lanterns will all fizzle out. You will lose if you do not
launch all your rockets before the last lantern burns out.

3.6 ARCADE GAME

The Arcade mode is a far more fast-paced game. This is an untimed game and
you can move the fuse blocks by clicking and dragging them.

This is similar to Classic mode in that you must launch a certain number
of rockets to advance to the next level. But in Arcade mode, you only start
with a few fuses at the bottom of the screen. New fuse blocks fall down at
regular intervals but you must make sure they do not fill the screen or you
will lose. Arcade mode is unique since you can MOVE fuse blocks by clicking
and dragging them. You can only move a fuse to a new location that is at
the same level or lower, and as long as there are no other fuses in the way.

If you want the game to play faster or you need more fuse blocks, click on
the area where the tiles are dropping from and a new line of fuses will drop.

If any column of fuses touches the top of the screen, you only have a few
seconds of grace time to move fuse blocks out of the offending column(s),
or clear some fuses by launching rockets.

3.7 STRATEGY GAME

The Strategy mode is a much more thoughtful game, great for practice and
for setting up mega rocket launches. This is an untimed game.

In Strategy mode, you have a limited number of matches you can use. The
number of matches you have remaining is shown in the Match Counter in the
left-hand sidebar. When you have used all your matches the game is over.
The goal is to get the highest score with your available matches. So, use
your matches wisely to maximize your points - there is no time pressure
so you can try to set up giant rocket launches.

You can earn extra matches by launching 3 or more fireworks at one time.
The more rockets you launch, the more matches will fall down. When new
matches drop down, you must pick them up within three turns or they will
fizzle out and disappear. To pick up a match, include it in the path of
any fuse that launches a rocket. You can only store up to 20 matches
maximum at one time.

3.8 BONUS ITEMS

There are a number of bonus items you can get by including them in the
path of any fuse that launches a rocket.

COINS
Coins are a very important part of the game. Coins are used to upgrade your
rockets, and upgraded rockets are worth more points. When you launch
multiple rockets at once, the cheering crowd will throw out coins in
appreciation - the bigger the launch, the more coins that are given. These
coins fall and you must pick them up. These coins go into your coin box and
are used to upgrade your rockets at the beginning of the next level. When
you have upgraded ALL your rockets, coins go towards your score.

Coins are available in Classic and Arcade modes only.

GEMS
Gems are thrown out occasionally by an appreciative audience. Collect them
to add to your score.

Gems are available in Classic and Arcade modes only.

BOMBS
Bombs can be used to clear away fuse blocks and add some oomph to your show.
Be careful though, since bombs will also clear any coins or gems that are
close by. Bombs are especially handy in Arcade mode when you are in a jam.

Bombs are available in Classic and Arcade modes only.

CLOCKS
Clocks will freeze the timer for a few seconds so you have more time to
complete a level. If you grab 2 clocks at one time, the timer will freeze
for twice as long.

Clocks are available in Classic mode only.

MATCHES
These drop down when you launch three or more rockets at one time in
Strategy mode. Each time you launch a rocket without picking up a fallen
match, it will glow less brightly. If you do not pick it up within 3 turns,
the match will fizzle out and disappear.

Matches are only available in Strategy mode.

=============
4.0 OPTIONS
=============

You can change game settings by clicking the OPTIONS button on the sidebar.

4.1 MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS

The two sliders at the top of the Options dialog control the volume of the
sound effects and music. You can adjust them separately. If you want to turn
the music or sound off completely, just drag the slider all the way to the
left.

4.2 FULLSCREEN

The Fullscreen option is enabled by checking the box next to it. This will
cause Rocket Mania to take up the whole screen. Some players may prefer this,
while others may like it better in a window, where they can easily switch
to other applications. To change back to windowed mode, just uncheck the
Fullscreen box.

4.3 CUSTOM CURSORS

This option will enable custom cursors within Rocket Mania, instead of using
your default Windows cursors. If you have an unusual Windows theme, or are
otherwise seeing strange mouse cursor behavior, you may want to enable this
option.

4.4 DISABLE HINTS AND TOOLTIPS

When this option is checked, all hint boxes and in-game tooltips will no
longer be displayed. You can re-enable this by unchecking this box. In some
cases, you can disable a hint when it pops up; these hints are not affected
by this checkbox and will remain disabled. Use RESET HINTS to restore all
hints back to their original settings.

4.5 HARDWARE ACCELERATION

Hardware Acceleration transfers much of the graphics processing workload from
your computer's CPU to its graphics card, resulting in smoother gameplay. If
you have a good video card (for example, a recent card with NVIDIA or ATI
RADEON chipsets) this option will be enabled by default. If it is unclear
whether your graphics card is adequate to support the game, then hardware
acceleration will be disabled by default but you can enable it to see if this
feature helps your game run better. If the game detects your card is not capable
of supporting hardware acceleration, then this option cannot be enabled (unless
you upgrade your video card).

Rocket Mania is designed to perform well on most PC's, even without
Hardware Acceleration. If you encounter any problems with the game's
performance, try enabling or disabling the Hardware Acceleration checkbox
to see if it will help. To get the most out of Hardware Acceleration, make
sure you have the latest version of Direct X installed and the most recent
video card drivers.

DirectX is available at http://www.microsoft.com/directx.

Check your video card manufacturer's website for the most recent drivers.

4.6 RESET HINTS

Clicking this button will reset all game hints back to their original
settings. This is helpful when someone new to the game wants to try it
out but you have disabled some or all of the hints.

=============
5.0 SCORING
=============

Your score is based on many factors. The following values are for the Easy
Difficulty level - multiply them by 1.5 for Medium and 2 for Hard
difficulty.

FUSES
5 points are earned for each fuse block burnt.

ROCKETS
Rockets are worth 100 points multiplied by the number on the rocket.

GEMS
They are worth from 500 up to 1000 points, depending on the type of gem.

COINS
When you have upgraded all your rockets, each 1 value coin is worth 500
points and these are added to your score. Also, the score for a rocket
launch is multiplied by the number of coins you pick up - so if you pick
up 4 coins (regardless of the actual coin value), then your launch score
will be multiplied by 4!

MATCHES
When you have the maximum number of matches, extra matches earned are worth
300 points.

COMBOS
Combos are instances where fuses fall down after a rocket launch and
automatically create a new launch. These are worth 2000 points.

MULTIPLE ROCKET LAUNCHES
Extra bonuses are awarded for multiple rockets launched at one time.
1000 for a 5x launch
2500 for a 6x
10000 for a 7x
25000 for an 8x
100000 for a 9x

=================
6.0 HIGH SCORES
=================

You can visit the High Scores screen from either the main game selector
screen, or after a game. This lets you submit and see the high scores
for all three game modes.

==================
7.0 REGISTRATION
==================

If you enjoy playing the Trial version of Rocket Mania Deluxe, sooner
or later you'll need to register!

7.1 BENEFITS OF REGISTERING

When you register, it removes all the annoying nag screens and limits
from the game, and other features are enabled:

 * High scores are enabled
 * Saved Games can be played

7.2 HOW TO REGISTER

To unlock the game, you need to buy a registration code online, and then
enter it into Rocket Mania Deluxe.

7.3 BUY A REGISTRATION CODE ONLINE

If you're playing Rocket Mania Deluxe, click on the OPTIONS button on the
sidebar and then click REGISTER. A dialog will come up onscreen. Click the
REGISTER ONLINE link to launch your web browser. You'll need to have an
active internet connection!

You can also register via the web. Go to http://www.popcap.com/rocketmania.php
and click the Registration link.

Once you're there, follow the directions on the web site to purchase your
registration code. You can use your credit card online to buy it, or fax your
purchase in, or send a money order.

When complete, you will be given a registration code (a 20-character sequence
of letters and numbers) keyed to your name. Don't give this to anyone else!

You will also receive a copy sent to your email address. You should write down
your registration code in case you ever have a computer crash or need to
reinstall Rocket Mania Deluxe for some other reason.

7.4 ENTER YOUR REGISTRATION CODE

You must launch Rocket Mania Deluxe to enter your registration code. Once the
game comes up, click on the REGISTER link on the loading screen, or from the
OPTIONS menu.

A dialog will come up with space for you to enter your name and registration
code. Type these in carefully! If you make a mistake, your code may not be
recognized.

The easiest way to do this is to cut and paste the code from the email you were
sent, by highlighting the 20-digit number with your mouse, pressing ctrl-c to
copy the text, and then pressing ctrl-v to paste it into the registration
dialog in Rocket Mania Deluxe.

Be sure to use the same name you gave when you bought your registration code
online, or your registration may not be recognized.

Once you've entered your name and registration code, click OK and your copy of
Rocket Mania Deluxe should now be registered. You will have full access to all
the game's features, with no delay at the loading screen!

7.5 PROBLEMS?

If the program doesn't seem to recognize your registration code, check carefully
that you've typed it in correctly. Using the cut-and-paste method described above
can help prevent mistakes. Also make sure you're using the same name you used to
register with.

If you can't get to the online registration site to buy your registration code,
make sure your internet connection is working properly. You must be connected to
the internet. If it still doesn't work, check back in a little while to see if
there was a temporary problem with our servers.

Lost your registration code? Email us at feedback@popcap.com and we'll try to
recover it for you. Make sure to let us know the name of the game you bought,
the name you purchased it under, and the approximate date of purchase... this'll
make it a lot easier for us to search our records.

Don't have a credit card, or don't want to enter it online? You can choose to fax
your credit card number in, or send a money order instead, by selecting the
appropriate option on the Payment Method selector on the web page.

There is currently no way to buy a CDROM containing Rocket Mania Deluxe, but this
could change in the future! There is also no version of the game available for
Macintosh computers yet.

Hopefully this will answer all your questions, but if you're still having
difficulties, feel free to contact us at feedback@popcap.com. Include as much
information as you can about the problem you're having, and we'll get back to you
as quickly as we can!
