V] TROUBLESHOOTING
=======================================================================

Windows 2000
Trophy Bass 4 requires DirectX, which is optimized differently for Windows 2000 than for Windows 95 or 98. Although we have tested Trophy Bass 4 successfully on a wide range of PCs with Windows 2000, your PC may be different. Be sure that you have installed the very latest drivers available for your system hardware (video card, sound card, etc.). Until your hardware manufacturer provides drivers that are fully compatible with Windows 2000, and you install them, there is a chance you may not be able to run the game successfully.

3D Hardware acceleration under Direct3D (Direct X).
Your 3D card will need to support palletized textures and have at least 2 MB of available texture memory to run the game adequately. Cards that do not support palletized textures will need at least 4 MB of texture memory. Otherwise, the game may run slowly or exhibit graphics errors. If it appears you don't have enough texture memory to run under Direct3D, try Glide drivers (if your card is Glide-compatible) or run the game in software. (You can turn 3D Hardware off from the game's Performance pull-down menu.)

Game Text Not Displaying Correctly under DirectX7
Some Voodoo cards may not render menu text correctly in the game if you are using the reference DirectX 7 drivers (Direct3D). You can avoid this by using the default Voodoo/Glide drivers, or, if you definitely want to use Direct3D, you can fix it by editing your tbass4.ini file in the Tbass4 folder as follows:

Use a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad to open tbass4.ini file. Find the section titled [Hardware]. If your tbass4.ini file does not have this section, create one. Add the line TextureOversample=1 Final results should look like this:

[Hardware]
TextureOversample=1

Save the file, close it, re-start the game and you're good.

Using OPENGL 3D Drivers
OpenGL is an instruction set (API) for some 3D cards that provides an alternative to the Direct3D or Glide/Voodoo APIs. If you're not having luck with Direct3D or Glide, give OpenGL a try.

First, start the game, and select (checkmark) Allow OpenGL from the Performance menu. Exit and restart the game. Then return to the Performance menu and select 3D Hardware Acceleration. On the submenu that opens, you will see your 3D hardware options. If your 3D card supports OpenGL (has a specific driver for it), you will see it as an option for that card.

Spinning Boat
If you have a joystick, and the joystick is not properly calibrated and centered, you may see your boat or mouse misbehaving. Go to the Options menu, disable the Joystick ("uncheck" JOYSTICK ON), and then calibrate or center it as needed.

Game is too dark or washed out.
If you're using a 3D card, you'll be able to select the BRIGHTNESS setting on the Options menu and choose a setting you like better. Note: Many fishing trips and tournaments start in the dark pre-dawn hours. Seriously, you may just need to wait for the sun to come up.

Multiplayer
If you are experiencing problems connecting using a modem or network, try running the "DPLAY61A_Retail.EXE" update for DirectPlay located in the DX6 folder on the root of the CD.

VI] DRIVER UPDATES
=======================================================================
Most computer manufacturers periodically update the "driver" software that comes with their products to support new and changing features of Windows and newer PCs, and provide them free-of charge on the Internet. Even if your PC is fresh out of the box, there already may be new drivers available for its video display adapter, sound card, 3D card, CD-ROM drive, or joystick. Its a good idea to check with the manufacturer for the latest drivers every few months or so, and it's an important first step when troubleshooting a program.
