Spakhs (Turkey)
Along with the janissaries, these troops formed the core of the Turkish army. Spakhs comprised a heavy feudal cavalry settled at the European border of the Turkish Empire.
They were perfectly skilled in combat and riding, as well as in hand-to-hand fighting.
Their entire life was devoted to soldiering. They constituted a kind of warrior caste which was, in a sense, comparable to European knighthood. Spakhs wore armour and wielded varied weapons.
