Saxony

Saxon noble rulers played a very important role in western Europe. The Electorate was a part of "The Holy Roman Empire". A favourable geographical position at the crossing of trade routes made Saxony one of the richest states in Germany. It possessed a good regular army of about 30,000 recruited soldiers. By the year 1701, the Saxon army numbered 20 infantrymen, 7 cuirassier detachments and 6 dragoon regiments.
